Triangular Ascension – The Chronos Anomaly (CD Album – Cyclic Law)Posted on 26/06/13
Content: After the very promising official debut-album “Leviathan Device” released in 2011 the Venezuelan project of Triangular Device strikes back with an absolute masterpiece. It’s quite fascinating to see Federico Ágreda Álvarez who got some international recognition with his d’n’b project Zardonic transposing himself into a real Prince of dark-ambient music.
His “The Chronos Anomaly” ‘ invites the listener to open their eyes and consciousness to a state where time is but a memory, and memories are but products of the mind, where nothing is external’. Federico Ágreda Álvarez has used an impressive arsenal of sounds and obscure ideas to accomplish his oeuvre. You get the constant sensation of being imprisoned in cold atmospheres of a secret subway. An organ sound opens the hostilities getting you progressively into chilling and oppressive sound waves resulting in pure terror. A few aquatic sounds are emerging from the dense and obscure atmospheres. The sound rapidly becomes disturbing while constantly reaching a new climax on every single piece.
“The Chronos Anomaly” is an invitation to join the darkest parts of dark-ambient music. Suddenly you can hear the vibrating sound of a didgeridoo, which reminds me of the glorious age of Lustmord’s “Paradise Disowned”. Well I’ve to say I experienced less poignant ambient releases since the legendary Lustmord-production.
But Triangular Ascension even goes a step further. The track “Sandstorm” sounds like a mix between the Eastern mysticism of Rajna and the haunting moods of Lustmord. And this is just a teaser for the upcoming “Carpe Noctem” transposing the imaginary legacy of Lustmord into the 21st Century. We here face a terrific and meticulous sound collage mixed with some kind of field recordings (or samplings). You feel like travelling on an imaginary ocean of torment where time no longer exists. A few tribal rhythms emerge at the end of the composition while the track “Rendition” sounds a total apocalyptic vision.
Conclusion: I’ve heard a lot of great dark-ambient opuses all over the years, but “The Chronos Anomaly” for sure enters in a kind of absolute top 10 of dark-ambient music. This work is close to perfection!
Best songs: “Sandstorm”, “Carpe Noctem”, “Rendition”, “Howling Earth”, “End Of Time”, “Time Crystal”.
