Tangent – 1 mk 2 (Digital Album – Mindtrick Records)Posted on 28/04/13
Genre/Influences: IDM, cinematographic electronics.
Content: Tangent is one of the newest projects signed on Mindtrick Records. I never heard of this project before and unfortunately no significant details have been revealed.
This official debut album was announced as ‘is inspired by the birth of our universe with all its violence and beauty’. The album belongs to the most experimental releases I’ve heard on Mindtrick Records. But there are experimental electro releases that are totally exciting and “1 mk 2” is one out of them. This project combines the intelligence of IDM together with ambient parts. The dark atmospheric sound treatments are leading towards a kind of apocalyptic and terror IDM style. The track “Infinite End” is the ultimate prove of this band’s potential and sophisticated work. It’s a rather complex piece filled with harsh sound treatments, destructive industrial parts and a progression into a real sound inferno. If the apocalypse is nearby, Tangent will be for sure one of the first projects to transpose it into sound.
The industrial aspect of the tracks is quite noticeable. It is like a new dimension of industrial music. It sounds like the birth of a new industrial music era where industrial sounds became more sophisticated and mixed with multiple electronic arrangements of IDM. It’s a rather extreme, but fully accessible experience in sound made by a visionary project.
Notice by the way that the album has been released on CD format and includes a bonus disc featuring a previous self-released album.
Conclusion: Tangent is pushing the borders of industrial and IDM music towards a point where a magic symbiosis between both styles is operating.
Best songs: “Infinite End”, “Vortex”.
