The Horrorist – Haywire (EP – Things To Come Records)Posted on 16/12/12
This is the 3rd EP preceding the upcoming full length album, “Fire Funmania” from The Horrorist. The New-Yorker sound wizard Oliver Chesler comes back with a heavy piece of a title track that will smack us all in the face.
There’s a touch of cyber-punk music and hard-core running through this song. The original version is one of the hardest and most punkish tracks I’ve ever heard from Chesler. The lyrics of the song make it only harder. I guess that Oliver was inspired by the rough nightlife of the big Apple leading the visitor into a schizophrenic and junk-like universe remaining me of “Trainspotting”.
We next get 3 remixes of the song by Tymon, Al Ferox and Panacea. The choice of the remixers is quite interesting. Tymon adds some industrial elements making the song harder and more brutal. I also enjoyed the remix by Panacea, which explores the hard-core touch of the song and reminds me to some elements of Ultraviolence.
The least I can say is that “Haywire” is pure dynamite showing the tough side of Oliver Chesler. All we need now is to hear the new full length!

You have sampling and sampling. In the industrial scene it's quite common to sample quite a lot but most bands re-use the sample in such way that the original source is unrecognizable. Not so with the Italian hard style duo Clockartz who nicked a complete chorus from the a cappella version of the track 'Virtual Gods' by Belgian electropop act Psy'Aviah for their new single. (...)
