Malfaktor – Absolute Zero (CD – Electronic Warfare Productions)

Industrial Music CDs at Storming The Base

Set up by Doug Cheek and Larry Orban III, this American project was then joined by Jonas Sandoval later on. “Absolute Zero” is the 3rd release of the project, which has been released on their own label.
This album, which has been already released months ago now, takes off with a dark-ambient intro. The track is not representative at all for the album. Malfaktor explores crossover fields made of guitar play and electronic layers. The atmospheres remain pretty dark and sometimes quite haunting, but we no longer can speak about dark-ambient music here.
I personally like the dark electro-haunting style of “Dark Energy” and especially the more electro-orientated “Cryostasis”. In a heavier and pure crossover style dominated by furious guitar parts comes “Permanence Enslaved”. The harsh vocals totally fit to the heavy sound. One of the most balanced electro-guitar songs is “Type-U Virus”. I’m not affirming that Malfaktor has achieved a real hit, but production wise this is a cool song.
“Absolute Zero” is missing an absolute hit song that brings a climax to the CD. Globally speaking it’s neither bad nor exceptional, but an enjoyable release. This is for sure the kind of band that will be apreciated in their homeland.
