Ad Inferna – There Is No Cure (DCD – Nilaihah Records)Posted on 31/07/11
Ad Inferna is back with their second full length on Nilaihah Records (after a debut-CD released on DreamCell 11). This French collective is comparable too good wine; the older they get, the better they sound.
Ad Inferna invites us to a dark electronic journey featuring nine new songs. The opening piece is a kind of intro, but “Angelik” coming up next is an efficient piece of dark electronics. It’s a hard-banging piece with a kind of sensitive, heavenly break filled with piano sounds. This song reminds me a bit of the dark atmospheres from Yelworc and early AmGod. Most of the tracks are quite fast forward and definitely more dark electro-inspired than ever before. Ad Inferna clearly has empowered their music to create a personal sound identity. I can’t speak about originality in writing rather than efficiency. “Seventh Heaven”, “Under My Skin” and “French Kiss Of Death” (feat. Kari Berg; ex Ashbury Heights) are injecting extra adrenaline, but the real highlight is “Resurrection”. This song is pure energy and led with a magic and carrying chorus. Another essential song is “Stigma” (featuring Zombie Girl). It’s another hard piece that comes to smack you right in the face. The main vocal parts were sung in English, but Ad Inferna remains faithful to their Mother tongue (French) as well.
We also get a remix CD featuring interesting names like Reaper, Alien Vampires, Acylum (feat. HausHetaere), Razorblade, Inline Sex Terror, End The DJ or yet the promising synth-pop formation Erotic Elk. I definitely prefer the ‘regular’ album although we get some cool remixes from Reaper, Chaos All Stars, Inline Sex Terror and End The DJ.
“There Is No Cure” is fully enjoyable and for sure the best production to date from Ad Inferna. I just expected a bit more from the remixes.
