Industrial Music CDs at Storming The Base

Based in New-York the name 00tz 00tz is spelled with zeros and pronounced like the sound of the beat in electronic/industrial music. The name sounds however funny and easy to remember. I remember their debut-CD “Death By numbers” released in 2009 for hiding some cool ideas, but the global production suffered from the total absence of a vocalist and some serious elaboration in songwriting. One year later this duo set up by Nicky Phoenix and Krysta Veronica Button strike back with a metamorphosed production. The originality is hard to find, but there’s a great efficiency. 00tz 00tz has seriously improved their total work. The hard and furious dark electronic style sounds like dynamite to drop on the dancefloors. It’s fast and enraged ‘endzeit’ electronics with mainly female vocals à la Erica Dunham (Unter Null). Music and vocals together sound a bit like the mix of bands like Nachtmahr, SAM, Soman on one side and Unter Null on the other side. We get ten songs full of rage resulting in one cool cliché album. A cliché isn’t always meant to be ‘negative’ especially when you get several great songs. “Frequency Damage” is a cool album with the songs “Eyes”, “Longing”, “Change The World”, “Stronghold” and especially “Fear And Dependence” as absolute highlights! “Change The World” moves a bit into technoid elements bringing an interesting diversity (although here again not that innovative) to the tracklist. The production of Krysta Veronica Button’s vocals is pretty well-done. The harsh vocal effect is less saturated than on Unter Null’s early work and that’s pretty cool. It creates a vampire-effect mixed with a malicious, psycho intonation! Nicky Phoenix did a few backing vocals, but with such a great dark electro vocalist, he can focalize on the music. This 2nd full length by 00tz 00tz is cool, like confirming that well-crafted dark electronics can be still fascinating!

You have sampling and sampling. In the industrial scene it's quite common to sample quite a lot but most bands re-use the sample in such way that the original source is unrecognizable. Not so with the Italian hard style duo Clockartz who nicked a complete chorus from the a cappella version of the track 'Virtual Gods' by Belgian electropop act Psy'Aviah for their new single. (...)
