Blume - Rise From Grey (CD A Different Drum)

Industrial Music CDs at Storming The Base

Blume is a brand-new synth-pop band hailing from Italy. Being signed on A Different Drum must have been of a great support, but more than that simply a consecration for their hard labour. "Rise From Grey" doesn't exactly sound as a debut release. The songs reflect a certain maturity in the writing and efficiency in the pop genre. The duel play of synths and guitar reminds me now and then to some 80s reminiscences, but no one will complain. "It's Not Enough" coming somewhere in the midst of the tracklist is a cool reflection of the 80s spirit running throughout Blume. It brings some good-old new-wave memories alive. But from start to finish this album brings real good surprises. "White Shades" sounds like a heavenly offspring between sweet synth-pop vibes and soft guitar parts. The vocals of Enrico Filisetti are totally appropriated to the splendour of the music. The title "Walking In The Darkness" coming next is remarkably accentuated by its melancholic mood and wafting guitar parts. "Endless" coming up is the absolute high light from this composition. Blume here experiments with trance-inspired strings, which have been mixed with pure pop. This is a pretty cool song. The 2nd part of the album is less fascinating. The songs are well-crafted, but can't seize the listener a similar way. I however noticed the gentle, sweet and wafting wave-trance-pop "Farewell" as single apotheosis to a pretty honest production!
