Set up by Matt Brock who’s an English artist already involved in the scene for several years, Dicepeople is a nice project with a unique approach in sound. It’s not that easy to define Brock’s music. He explores several music fields, but the meaningful ‘moody’ side from his compositions sounds a bit like the red line running through his work. The opening songs “Borderline” and “Invader” are perfectly expressing this electro-atmospheric composition. The atmospheric side is quite refreshing while composed with cool sounds. The “Ghost” track can be easily seen as the masterpiece from the album. This song brings a real surprising symbiosis of a dub elements and darker atmosphere reminding tme of Portishead. The whispering vocal parts (from a guest vocalist) inject an extra spooky touch to this brilliant piece. The title of the song totally fits to the global atmosphere of this song. “Ghost” is quite different from the debut-songs, but Dicepeople definitely sounds like a band trying to connect different influences. The song “Seek, Locate” is another example of this very open-minded way of composing. We here get a mix of wafting electronics and vague EBM influences with some (I presume) vocal samplings on top. A very last noticeable pieces is “The Fear” reflecting a more pronounced electro direction with once again noticeable sound research. The music of Dicepeople is quite accessible and fully enjoyable! We can’t really speak here about a project with a vocalist and that’s maybe an idea for the future that would only increase the interest for Dicepeople!
