Speaking for myself, the debut album ("Underground") from the Parisian act Krystal System definitely belongs to the best releases from 2009! The mix of electroclash and Rammstein guitar riffs revealed to be very efficient. The acclaimed reactions to Krystal System probably incited the band and their Belgian label to release this EP, which is nothing less than a look-back to the album. Five songs originally released on "Underground" have been remixed while as a bonus we get two mixes of their Depeche Mode-cover of "Master And Servant" (originally released on the Alfa-Matrix tribute "Re:Covered"). There were enough strong songs on "Underground" to make a judicious selection. The five winners are "Mental", "New World", Elektrostal", "Alakor" and the unavoidable "I Love My Chains". The "Mekatronik Side"-remix of "Mental" opens this EP and is without a shadow of a doubt my favorite one! The mix of Rammstein guitars with the outstanding electro construction is terrific. The female whispering and sexy vocals of Bonnie add a warm and confusion taste to this masterpiece. Krystal System did all of the remixes by themselves and that's definitely a real good choice. This way the original versions haven't been raped, but just reinforced by extra ingredients from the band. The "Sky Industry Edit" of "New World" is another illustration of their growing talent. It's again anew mix of guitars and electronics. The male backing vocals of N7 are adding a little punk touch on top of the song. The "Voodoo Night Sessions"-version of "I Love My Chains" didn't really add that much new to the original version, but it remains an absolute taster! The "Remix Cube" of "Elektrostal" isn't my favorite one, but the "Version Android" of "Alakor" is another great moment on this EP. I here again like the whispering kind of sensual vocals. The cover version of Depeche Mode's "Master And Servant" is a special one. The original song has been considerably transformed into a minimal approach. The "Swan Mix" didn't impress me that much while the "The Whip It Side"-mix is harder and more credible. The French accent on the lyrics will only accentuate the sexy touch of the Parisians. Nothing really new on this EP, but if you like the band (like I do) this release will give you nothing but pleasure!
