Punish Yourself – Pink Panther Party (CD Season Of Mist)

Here comes the 6th album from the French fluorescent combo better known as Punish Yourself. For those who already discovered the split-cd “Peacemakers Inc” released on Invasion Wreck Chords this new album will be less surprising (as we here already heard 4 songs extract from this album, but in their live version). Punish Yourself doesn’t really innovate on their “Pink Panther Party”, but do they have reasons to evolve in sound? I don’t think so as they remain a very unique band with its own sound and an own style. The mix of guitars and electronics has been once more executed with force and discipline! Discipline sounds probably a bit contradictory for a combo that has been often described as cyber-punks. Call it cyber-punk or simply crossover “Pink Panther Party” excels in power and overwhelming aggressive songs. “Shiva Only Is God” directly brings you into a real epicenter of enragement and sonic provocation. Filtered electro bleeps and murderous guitar riffs will grip you by the throat while the raw, screaming vocals are like a signal from hell! “End Of The Western World” and “(My Name Is) Legion” coming next are 2 more bombs that Punish Yourself will make explode once coming out of your speakers! The next piece entitled “A Russian Lullaby” features the noise terrorists of Ambassador 21. With “Zmeya” the merciless sonic machine of the Frenchies already achieves some highlights. I here like the electronic violin parts on top of devastating electro-guitar arrangements. Punish Yourself aren’t exactly what we might call ‘good guys’! The somewhat more provocative lyrical content of “Born In Thorns/Torn In Pieces” will definitely give you an idea of what those ‘punkers’ are up to! I’m not saying that this is their best release thus far, but it might be the album with the highest number of potential ‘hits’! Simply brilliant!
