Since their very first album "E-Bay Queen" the female duo of Marsheaux earned a serious reputation in the synth-pop world. "Peek A Boo" released in 2007 only confirmed the talent of Marianthi and Sophie. Two years later they strike back with their 3rd opus "Lumineux Noir" and once more they surprised with a stylish and catchy synth-pop music reminiscent of the 80s. The influences from Marsheaux are clearly evoking the early years of the sytnh-pop music. Built with numerous analogue synths they keep on this spirit album after album. "Lumineux Noir" doesn't really bring an evolution in sound, but shows a growing maturity in song writing and production. This new opus is without a shadow of a doubt their most achieved release to date. Brilliant songs are succeeding each other. The opening song "Exit" brings us directly in the good-old 80s mood revealing some well-crafted electronic textures. That's just an appetizer for the upcoming "Breakthrough", which is one of the main songs from this album. It might remind to the early years of Ladytron (although this band has a pronounced British sound with guitars on top of the electronics) while the new Marsheaux sounds a little bit harder. Marsheaux sounds also full of reverie and sweetness. Especially the vocals of Marianthi inject this touch of sweet and sensual expression. Her voice is sometimes quite fragile, but perfectly balanced with the music. Some wafting sensations are emerging from songs like "Destroy Me", "Ghosts" and "So Far". The last song "Sorrow" features a beautiful string, which reminds me to the typical And One sound. Musical wise the Greek girls perfectly control their instruments while they also prove that vintage synths are the only ones to create a unique sound. It for sure differentiates Marsheaux from any other 'digital' synth-pop formation. All real synth-pop lovers will for sure love this album while for the others "Lumineux noir" could be of a good introduction!
