We Got This Far - Blunt Force Volume (CD Spiralchords)

I discovered this band on the last "Septic"-series (released on Dependent) where they didn't really impress me that much. So I was a little bit skeptical to hear an entire album of the band and at the end of the ride I've to admit to be positively surprised. Set up by Ollie Marsh and Jason Silva the band didn't need that many years to launch their official debut full length. It's not a piece of cake to describe the sound of this band, but we definitely can speak about a crossover style mixing amazing guitar parts and electronics. The sound might remind now and than to the early years of Ministry, but there's no further resemblance. I already evoked the guitar parts, which are definitely the strongest element from this album. The guitar parts have been played in a very particular way. It reminds me a little bit of industrial-rock bands, but when acoustic guitar parts are joining in (like on the excellent "Endgame") the link is no longer possible. So this is for sure a band with an own identity in sound. They illustrate it with brilliance on songs like "Like Dying", "Mistep" or yet "Cave In". I realize that the "Sedona" song featured on the last "Septic"-release is not really one of my favorites neither "Bludgeon" that was released as a previous Mcd. A last song I want to mention is a special one. "So This Is Doom". This song was chosen to contribute music for the brand new, free 3D shooter online game "Vector Conflict: The Siege" released by Dig Your Own Grave Games. Once again this song is not one of my favorites, but it definitely reveals the growing interest in We Got This Far! This is definitely a band to follow!
