Meller - Spacewalk (cd Crotus Records)

Marco Scherer and DJ Mel aka Meller are for sure one of the main reasons why I’m still fond of psytrance music. Their debut-cd “Solar Drums” released on AP Records remains one of my all time favorite releases in the genre. After tons of maxi’s Meller now strikes back with a 3rd album while moving to the Danish Crotus Records. They once again convince me to compose a more personal approach in psytrance. The use of spoken samplings is once again a characteristic from their new compositions. Meller is definitely one of the few bands I know in their genre mixing human voices with their music in such an efficient way. The spoken samplings most of the time have a kind of spooky, zombie effect on top making the songs quite intriguing. Musical wise this German project is also a class-act. From start on they bring the pressure to a real high level. “Dirty Buddy” starts in a furious way reaching a climax after a few minutes only. The power emerging from their songs is terrific while the space-sounding bleeps and tones are absolutely outstanding. We get 10 new pieces with “Robot Monsters”, “Shiba”, “Africa” and the more into acid bleeps leading “Monotone” as most terrific parts. The deep bass lines are gripping you by the throat while the typical goa kick drum will bring you heartbeat to a furious level. Listening to Meller is an extremely dangerous exercise that can rapidly lead you into overdrive! Simply excellent!
