Set up by guitarist and vocalist Aurelio Gioia, the Italian Anima Virus has just released its official debut-cd. The style of this band sounds like pure guitar-wave. “End Of The Eden” offers a nice diversity in songs, which are now pure guitar-wave (with the 80s as absolute reference), but then more progressive. A song like “Sin And Sacrifice” is more into the ‘modern’ line and brings an up tempo and powerful style. The guitar parts and the kick of this song are simply excellent. The more you enter the universe of Anima Virus, the more A. Gioia’s way of singing evokes some similarities with M. Manson. “Amphetamine” and “Siren” are both great guitar-wave pieces with this M. Manson timbre of voice on top. The variety between quieter and real dynamic pieces sounds like being a piece of cake for this band. They simply feel comfortable playing both forms. The more electronic styles “Bed Of Thorns” is again a bit different, but here again Anima Virus excels in maturity and efficiency. This song also brings a nice balance between male and female vocal parts. One of the only weaker parts is the poorly executed cover version of Echo & The Bunnymen’s “The Killing Moon”. “End Of The Eden” is a well-crafted album from an Italian gothic formation, which sounds different from the average Italian Goths!
