I discovered this project a few weeks ago on the exceptional “Nacht Der Maschinen Vol.2”-sampler released on Infacted Records. Ellipse vs. Industriegebiet is a bit confusing as it first looks as a collaboration between 2 projects, but with one single man behind both projects. Massimo is a German musician who seems to have set up different projects, but Ellipse and Industriegebiet together create a kind of dark-electro-industrial-techno style, which can be linked to projects like SAM, Feindflug, Soman and other Noisuf-X. Ellipse vs Industriegebiet clearly stand for the new and progressive Teutonic sound of modern dark electronics. Another confusing element about this album is the fact most of the tracks are remixes by other bands. So it’s pretty difficult to get a real idea about the potential of Massimo himself. The opening song “In Takt E Maschinenmusik” is the only original cut from the album and this song brings me closer to the technoid-EBM style of Massiv In Mensch. Especially the typical spoken samplings are very Massiv In Mensch like. Another representative track from Massimo is “Sexmaschine” remixed by Industriegebiet. The main characteristic from this song is the kind of James Brown parody with the sampling (rape) of “Sex Machine”. It seems that the style of Massimo has a much more funny approach than the remixes made by bands like Acylum, Novastorm, Soman, Mechanical moth ao. The absolute high light remains the “Sex Mit Einer Leiche” remixed by Soman (and featured on “Nacht Der Maschinen Vol.2”). This version sounds in between Soman and Noisuf-X and that’s rather amazing as reference! This is a heavy cut of dark-technoid-body stuff with spoken samplings. Other attention grabbers are the “Sorge Um Goot”-remix by Acylum, which comes closer to the offspring between SAM and Feindflug. Novastorm did also a great job on the “Licht Am Ende Unserer Welt”, which sounds more into dark electronics. The mix of techno and EBM (for the vague Leather Strip bass line sound) sounds great on the “Elektro Computer Maschinenmusik”-remix from Sector Alpha while Timo Hühner remixed “Rein Und Rausgehen” in a more electroclash approach. Two more songs I want to mention is the old-school EBM influenced “Revolution Is not Dead” remixed by Sympathikus and the more into future-pop sounding Taken Away” remixed by Frequenzgänger. Remixes or not, this album is a real cool surprise for all lovers of progressive dark-EBM.
