A few months after the release of the astonishing “eLekatota”-album, now comes another new full length from Totakeke. The brainchild of the in New-York based Frank Mokros is definitely one of the absolute best newcomers on the increasing Tympanik Audio roster. “Forgotten On The Other Side Of The Tracks” are tracks that have been composed during the composition of the “At The Train Station On A Saturday Evening” and “eLekatota”-albums. It’s hard to say if these songs are like the “waste” from both albums, but it definitely reveals an artist who composed enough tracks to get the position to choose the one he would have on his albums. From a very personal point of view, these tracks here are definitely not the best ones I’ve heard from Totakeke, but they’re definitely good and convincing enough to be released. I would even say it would be a shame to forget these tracks. Most of the “Forgotten On The Other Side Of The Tracks”-cuts are into a more explicit experimental vein although you rapidly can recognize some of the most essential elements of Totakeke. You hear the particular ambient taste of the project mixed with special bleeps and other outer-atmospheric moods. It has been all spiced with very diversified elements like d’n’b ingredients, technoid notes, spoken samplings, a few tribal injections and other industrial components. The sound of Tatakeke remains quite accessible although the music sometimes offers a complex spectrum of arrangements and sonic treatments. “Forgotten On The Other Side Of The Tracks” is an album, which needs a bit more time to really get into it, but once you’re into its grip you will for sure recognize the amazing potential of this project. Several tracks only, but confirm the strong potential from Totakeke. I’m referring here to pieces like “Jetee” revealing a more experimental side, “The Past Remembered” for the d’n’b elements and technoid texture, “Left At The Station 2” for its vague tribal sphere, “Euthanasia” for the great ambient impact and “Strangle(d)” for the heavier, beating rhythmic. The 2 last tracks are remixes made by Lucidstatic and Terrorfakt. Especially the Terrorfakt-remix from “Left At the Station 3” is a hard piece of beating industrial. The lovers of Totakeke will for sure like this new release!
