Joining the Tympanik Audio roaster, this German duo from Integral probably found the right label to get them out of the shadow. David Rotter and Rafael Milatz have composed a pure chef d’oeuvre! It’s hard to really compare them to any other project, but I hear a kind of symbiosis between projects like M² and Orphx with some Lassigue Bendthaus on top. Most of the songs are led by low tempo rhythmic while invading spatial sonic treatments and spoken samplings join in. We here find the main ingredients of the “Rise” album, but the way it has been arranged and even refined with some violin on the “Doors”-cut is brilliant! The sound of Integral isn’t exactly what I would define as being ‘cold’, but there’s a kind of sterile atmosphere coming through. They create a fascinating ambient work, which fascinates through its refinement and splendor of the sounds. You can hear this project took their time to do a proper sound research to finally rework all their ideas in studio. Tracks like “Doors”, “Distal”, “Schlaflos”, “Rise” and “Reaktor” are some examples of their knowledge. Some deep bass lines now and than appear while other more mysterious atmospheres bring the listener in total devotion. The last tracks are a bit more into ambient, but here again Integral excels in meticulous arrangements and crescendo climax. “Moonwalk”, “Back Here Alone” and finally “Je Ne Trouve Pas La Sortie” ( which means “I Can’t Find The Exit”) are serving as a cool apotheosis to an essential album! This is a very good illustration of efficiency mixed with originality! Absolutely recommended!
