Hailing from The Netherlands, Tapage is a solo-project that has already released a few productions. Joining the young, but qualitative Tympanik Audio label, Tapage will now for sure get the opportunity to get a wider recognition…although the music of this project can be easily qualified as ‘complex’ and ‘difficult’. Claiming to be influenced by projects like Gridlock and other Somatic Responses or Venetian Snares the sound even digs into deeper and minimal styles. Broken rhythms, cuts and clicks plus spatial bleeps are leading the listener in alchemistic universe of sonic manipulations and other ambient experiments. Tapage seems to explore different sonic fields, composing a quite compact, but ‘extreme’ sound. We’re more speaking here about sound exploration and the research in creation. The instrumental pieces aren’t into real danceable music although they’re dynamic! The “Head Cage”-track sounds as one of the most accessible pieces although reassembling all elements of the Tapage-sound. In a more experimental side I also like the cut “Pretend Not To See”, which has an Eastern sound flavor on top. Tapage for sure found the right label while signing on Tympanik Audio while belonging to the most minimal artists of the label!
