Midnight Syndicate are for sure one of the most famous gothic formations involved in movie industry. The soundtrack they made for Robert Kurtzman’s “The Rage” can be seen as one more consecration of their talent to create gothic & horror-like soundtrack music. Robert Kurtzman is a very famous artist who in the past has been involved in numerous famous movies as make-up supervisor and/or effect supervisor. We’re not gonna speak about “The Rage” (the movie), but about “The rage” as new album of Midnight Syndicate. The main thing you’ve to know about the movie is that it concerns a horror movie. The style and sound of the music remains faithful to what frontman Edward Douglas has been done for so far. He composes pure music for the mind and even without the movie this feeling of horror works perfectly. Most of the songs remain quite orchestral-like while it injects certain impression of drama. It’s clear that music can here only reinforce the visual side. The 19 tracks have to be seen as a very compact entity. For this reason it’s quite impossible to mention some favourites, but “Feeding Time” and “Gor” for sure caught my attention. Midnight Syndicate remains a particular and unique experience in gothic music. According to me they simply go beyond the borders and standards of classical gothic music…they’re like creating a soul to gothic music!
