The 2nd album of HY sounds definitely more accessible than the “Storegga Effect” released in 2006. “Perpetual Beta” sounds less experimental (although there is an experimental basis in their work), but excels in an approach to compose real songs. A few 80s influences emerge from the minimal electronic arrangements while the distorted effect and power comes closer to an artist like Monolith. The track “Sharing Solar Resources” is an efficient illustration of this 80s and Monolith-mix. A few more cool songs have been placed at the end of the album. “Google Ate My Startup” and “Perpetual Beta” closing the album are 2 great examples of the evolution this band went through. This is great and minimal electro-industrial stuff. Another side of HY is more into sound collages. It stands for their experimental side, which mixes electronics together with industrial elements and numerous samplings. These tracks aren’t the most fascinating ones, but they bring some diversity to the tracklist. “Perpetual Beta” reveals a more homogenous and mature project! (DP:7)DP.
