“Blood of the dragon” is a new album of Joseph Vargo and William Pioptrowski aka Nox Arcana. This opus sounds a bit more symphonic than their previous work and even features a few vocal parts. It remains first of all pure soundtrack music for an imaginary horror and/or fantasy movie. I perfectly imagine this music as soundtrack of movies like “Conan” and the great “Lord of the Ring”-trilogy. This is not pure coincidental as both musicians had this perception in mind when writing their dark gothic soundtrack. The front cover and the content of the booklet only reinforce this mythical and fantastic influence made by monsters, witches, dark moons etc… I really like the kind of chants that they’ve put in a few tracks. The “Harlequin’s lament” even remains me a bit to the monastery-atmosphere of “The name of the rose”. NA composes music to awake the imagination of every listener. I personally prefer their work to Midnight Syndicate (J. Vargo is an ex-member of this band) for being a bit more diversified.
