The debut-cd “Resist” of the British Kosheen became a very successful release in Belgium, but also conquered other countries as well. Successor “Kokopelli” was less convincing to me although contributed to the increasing popularity of the band. Nearly 4 years later now comes “Damage”, which sounds like the perfect bridge between both debut releases. “Damage” goes more back to what made the success of “Resist”. The band again perfectly mixes d’n’b influences and more poppy elements resulting in a compact and meaningful album! The female vocals remain for sure a very important asset in the sound of Kosheen. The title-song that opens the album plus the next 2 songs (cf. “Overkill” and “Like a book”) are directly introducing us to the best cuts of this album. There’s a perfect match between electronics and guitar riffs. It all sounds like this band has here released its more mature release to date although it doesn’t deliver similar big hits like “Suicide”, “Catchy” or yet “Suicide”. I like most of the sound sculptures, but especially these from “Chances” and “Thief”. Kosheen is back and even if this band will be mainly linked to mainstream music, it for sure will please fans of underground music! (DP:7/8)DP.
