Limited vinyl release 'This Desolation' + competition from Ireland's KuBo

(By Agro Fi) On June 7th 2014, from the house of Peripheral Minimal came a 7" vinyl release from Ireland's electronic duo, KuBo: "This Desolation". This is the first vinyl release by the band, after the initial tape single "I Dream Electric" was produced by Manchester-based label Vocoder Tapes. The result is a beautifully packaged synth music gem, limited to just 200 copies. Available also as a download and freely streamed on Bandcamp, there is no excuse to not indulge in exploring this 2-track fore-runner to a promised album release.

KuBo have evolved as the potent electronic offspring of Ireland's Empire State Human and Polydroid. Aidan Casserly and Brian O'Malley state that the band is a 'homage to Cubo-Futurism'. The main track is the grittily titled "This Desolation" and Trevor Horn would have been proud of this track's intro. But before you can say "PleasureDome", KuBo kick into something very new, yet very old. Aidan Casserly's unmistakable vocal tone tilts through some beautifully placed key changes. A solid song structure, with skillful contrasts from minimal soundscape to rich, multi-layered choruses and deeply melancholy undertones.

To celebrate the release, KuBo are running a competition for a chance to win a test pressing of the 7” single "This Desolation", answer the following question: In the photo of KuBO playing a live recording session for UNIT1 Studios in Dublin, can you name the ‘Music Percussion Computer’ in the photo? First person with the correct answer wins, followed by 2nd and 3rd. Answers should be sent to: .

  • 1st prize: Original Test pressing, copy of the release 7", Cassette single of "I Dream Electric" from 2013.
  • 2nd Prize: 7" vinyl of "This Desolation", Cassette single of "I Dream Electric".
  • 3rd prize: 7" Vinyl of "This Desolation".

Good luck!
