Laibach to score OST for 'Iron Sky The Coming Race', the sequel to the Nazi pastiche 'Iron Sky' - time to invest!Posted on 20/06/13
If all goes as planned, the sequel to the Nazi-pastiche "Iron Sky" (2012), will again have Laibach scoring the OST. We clearly say 'if all goes as planned' because the people behind the film, have launched an IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaign in order to secure enough own finances for the production. With 11 days left, they still have to raise $ 93.000. We already helped out by buying some perks because we absolutely loved the first movie. You can see the IndieGoGo campaign trailer below. North Korea was not pleased after the first film :).
The reason to crowdfund the film again is explained by director Timo Vuorensola: "With Iron Sky, we spent all of our energy in trying to finance the film, forced to be doing bad deals and compromising a lot. We had to tweak the story to meet the needs of the financiers but still fight to keep the integrity of the story intact – had we not fought, we'd probably had Mickey Mouse in Moon Base with Santa Claus – this actually was one real suggestion to make the story “funnier”. We don't want to end up in these discussions again and we don't want to spend five years trying to come up with the money."
With Iron Sky 2, the team wants to go darker, crazier, and more experimental. The team also will be handling distribution themselves to have more power over defining when the film comes out and where. The name of the film is "Iron Sky The Coming Race". The original writing team is back together, laying down the story elements. Some of the actors will be coming back, some new actors will be joining the team, and Laibach has promised to score the film.
Expect the film to be shot in 2015. For the fans, don't forget to get hold of the new Blu-ray of the first "Iron Sky" holding the "Iron Sky Director’s Cut". It is now available at www.ironsky.net or as a perk at IndieGoGo and will be accompanied by a new double-LP soundtrack by Laibach to be released soon by Mute. The cut is the original vision from director Timo Vuorensola and includes 20 minutes more special effects, action and jokes as well as new music from Laibach. You can see the trailer for the Blu-ray below.
