Daniel Darc (Taxi Girl) dies of drug overdose

French singer Daniel Darc who achieved success with his new wave band Taxi Girl (together with Madonna producer Mirwais Ahmadzaï) between 1978 and 1986 and also solo has died of a drug overdose. He was 53 and was found dead by his producer in his Paris residence. The last album Darc released was "La Taille de mon âme" (2011).

For many French, Canadian and Belgian readers he will remain best known for the Taxi Girl album "Seppuku" from 1981 which was produced by Jean-Jacques Burnel of The Stranglers. Jet Black drummer of The Stranglers, provided percussion on the album after the death of Pierre Wolfsohn. They also toured the UK in 1981, providing support to the Stranglers on their 'La Folie' tour.

Since the band split, Daniel Darc released several solo albums under his own name. Mirwais went on to collaborate with the group Juliette Et Les Indépendants, before being discovered by Madonna in the late 1990s. He then produced her albums "Music" and "American Life", as well as releasing his own solo album "Production".

The past few years Darc's drug abuse was more and more visible.
