Apparatjik suite opened at The Thief hotel in OsloPosted on 20/02/13
Friday 8 February was the opening of the new Apparatjik suite at The Thief hotel in Oslo. Apparatjik is a supergroup formed in 2008 that consists of bassist Guy Berryman from Coldplay, guitarist/keyboardist Magne Furuholmen from A-ha, singer/guitarist Jonas Bjerre of Mew and producer Martin Terefe.
The room at was designed by the band in partnership with interior designer Karina Holmen and contains many artifacts from the Apparatjik world: there is a Bolshevik Box including a 12" vinyl copy of "We Are Here" and a turntable to play it on; there is a set of 8 individual original Apparatjik art prints which were produced at Atelje Larsen in Helsingborg, Sweden; plus other visual details around the room which evoke the Apparatjik experience for those who have been taking note of the project along the way. Other visual aspects include disco-ball textiles, pixel-patterned blankets, a roof-mounted projector showing Apparatjik’s video art and disco balls in the bathroom and lounge.
The suite has also been supplied with books by Apparatjik as well as a comprehensive selection of albums by the group’s own favourite artists.
Located between the Astrup Fearnley Museum, the canals on Tjuvholmen and the Oslofjord, the hotel holds 119 rooms. International and Norwegian designers such as Antonio Citterio, Bruno Rainaldi, Tom Dixon, Anne Haavind and StokkeAustad are behind the furniture and decor. The hotel’s own art curator has hand-picked art for every single room and suite from the Thief Art collection.
