This 80sObscurities was founded by DJ Rexx Arkana to showcase old, often unknown or forgotten acts and tracks from the decade when electronic music was truly the new wave. Rexx Arkana has been a club/radio DJ and promoter since the mid-80s and headlined festivals on several continents and currently holds a residency at DEFCON, NYC's current longest-running weekly scene party. He is also the founder and lyricist of Brudershaft and one half of harsh electro act FGFC820.
Happy Monday, loyal listeners! We kick off our second week of 80sObscurities' special "12 Days of Christmas" celebration with a track that happens to be a personal favorite of mine from a band of which I could never get enough.
Delivering the holiday cheer this morning is Tom Shear of Assemblage 23, also a featured vocalist on the upcoming second release from Bruderschaft (I know, I know). Here's Tom's pick: "My choice is "Someone's Calling" by Modern English. Most people only know them for "I Melt With You", but "After the Snow" - the album from which it’s taken - is amazingly solid and underrated.
"Someone's Calling" kicks off the album on a great note. I love the modulating synth line on this as well as the electronic strings. A great bassline, great vocal melody…“Someone’s Calling” is just an all-around great track." Thanks, Tom, for the tune and remember, if you find someone calling on you next Tuesday, it just might be Santa Claus.
