Non-story - UK chef Jamie Oliver did NOT find Joy Division / New Order master tapesPosted on 15/02/12
Yesterday we brought you a story on how UK chef Jamie Oliver would have found Joy Division / New Order master tapes in the basement of a new restaurant he was opening. We added to that coverage that the story 'smelled funny', and that we actually thought it was a spoof or non-story. We were right.
As it seems Oliver didn't find anything. The real story is that those tapes used to be in vaults in the bank that used to be there. A non-story first class, spread by NME and the other UK magazines as a true story. Too good to be true of course.
As an NME-journalist once told us: "Pageviews are king, especially for us." Let's suppose that that was the real reason behind this story and so many other X-drank-a-beer-with-Y articles on the magazine's site.
But we had a good laugh. All ends well.
