No further collaborations planned between Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet

In a Q&A on her website alisonmoyet.com, Alison Moyet has drowned all hope to see both her and Vince Clarcke back in the studio anytime soon. Moyet, who is working on an electronic project, got a question from a fan who asked whether Clarke would be working with her on the new material.

She said this: "I think the notion for me to work with Vince was a good one. We intended while touring to see what we might come up with but the reality of a tour that is brief and unlikely to be repeated meant the focus stayed on the job in hand. Added to which, Vince had acquired some new animation software that occupied his spare time and I made the most of seeing places I had not explored on earlier outings. The fact that we live in different continents and he was soon to be writing for the next Erasure album meant that the opportunity escaped us and normal lives resumed. It was a nice idea but the moment passed. We have not talked about finding time for it since."

You don't need to be a wizzard to read between the lines that this also means no new Yazoo material either.

Strange is that Vince Clarke was apparently more in the mood to work on new material with Moyet before the tour started. Here's the transcript of our interview with Vince Clarke regarding the matter (made in mid 2008).

SL. You mentioned in an interview that you will be recording new tracks as well with Alison whilst on tour.

V. Well, we won't be recording as such, just writing some new material. We'll see later on then if we actually going to record and release it. But it might never happen since I have much work with Erasure as well.

SL. Then again, you are on a 2 years hiatus with Erasure so that shouldn't be a problem?

V. That's right, but again, it is not set in stone that a new album will surface but it is not impossible.

SL. If that's the case, would that still be in the Yazoo style as we know it or is that kind of electro pop no longer an option...?

V. You know, I have been listening back to the material we recorded back then and it was interesting to hear how these songs could be sounding great still when being so simple. Simplicity above all really and that is how I would like to work again on new Yazoo tracks or any other material because definitely the material turned me on to the less is more approach.

So it looks like it that the 1983 album "You and Me Both" will remain Yazoo's second and very last studio album ever.
