Synthpop act Iris return with new album 'Blacklight' in SeptemberPosted on 19/07/10
American electronic pop/rock act Iris are back. The band's fifth studio album "Blacklight" is scheduled to be released on September 3, 2010. You may also expect an exclusive limited single to be released as appetizer for the actual album. The new album is the follow-up to "Hydra" which was released in 2008. Formed by Reagan Jones and Mat Morris in 1993 the band hit the synthpop scene by surprise with their outstanding debut "Disconnect". After that first album Matthew Morris was replaced with Andrew Sega who pushed the band's sound into a more experimental electronic direction.
We dug up some background info on Sega for those who are unfamiliar with him. Andrew Gregory Sega, also known by the moniker Necros, is an American musician best known for tracking modules in the 1990s demoscene as well as for composing music for several well-known video games. He is part of the group Iris, a live member of Stromkern, and has his own recording label known as Diffusion Records. Sega is also the founder of The Alpha Conspiracy project.
Sega was also a founding member of the video game music production company Straylight Productions, contributing tracks to the first-person shooters "Unreal" and "Unreal Tournament". Later, he joined Digital Anvil (now a part of Microsoft Game Studios), and worked as a programmer and musician on "Freelancer". In 2006 he founded Diffusion Games, a gaming company which focuses on exploring emotional and social aspects of interactivity.
