Krautrock legend Michael Rother defends Oasis for 'Brand Neu!' compilation 'beating'
Neu! founder member Michael Rother has defended the inclusion of the Oasis track "I Can See It Now" on a compilation album paying tribute to the krautrockers. "Brand Neu!" was released in May, but the compilation was criticised because the Oasis track was included on it. In an interview with The Quietus, Rother said: "To be honest, I also quite like the Oasis track. I mention that because I read in some reviews that they got a bit of a beating." Rother however did also add that he wasn't impressed with the whole Brand Neu! album, which also features the likes of Foals, Kasabian and Primal Scream. "Some of the bands on 'Brand Neu!' don't impress me that much. I would have liked to have Fuck Buttons on there," he said.

Noel Gallagher (Oasis) had this to say about the band: "Neu! influenced me long before I ever heard them. The sound of Neu! is all over Joy Division, check out 'Unknown Pleasures' and 'Closer' and hear it for yourself. Or listen to Kenny Morris's tribal glam tom-tom drumming of "The Scream" era Siouxsie & The Banshees."

The release features contributions from artists influenced by the band from Primal Scream to LCD Soundsystem, Foals to Oasis. The album is the first release on Feraltone, a new label founded by Gronland"s former Managing Director. "Brand Neu!" also contains a rare guitar track by NEU! guitarist Michael Rother plus an unreleased track by La Duesseldorf, one of the last pieces of music late drummer Klaus Dinger was involved in shortly before his death in March 2008.

In related Noel Gallagher news, the musician is to quit London for Manchester. Noel Gallagher recently confirmed his intention to launch a solo career following Oasis' August break-up.
