Marilyn Manson got a nice character uppercut by Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor just recently. Reznor has spoken out against his former protégé Marilyn Manson, calling him "a dopey clown" in a new interview with Mojo. Reznor: "He is a malicious guy and will step on anybody’s face to succeed and cross any line of decency. Seeing him now, drugs and alcohol now rule his life and he’s become a dopey clown."

The love between both musicians began to deteriorate during NIN's "The Downward Spiral" tour in 1994 says Trent: "During the Spiral tour we propped them up to get our audience turned on to them and at that time a lot of the people in my circle were pretty far down the road as alcoholics. Not Manson. His drive for success and self-preservation was so high, he pretended to be fucked up a lot when he wasn’t." And he adds: "Things got shitty between us and I'm not blameless. The majority of it though was coming from a resentment guy who finally got out from under the master's umbrella and was able to stab him in the back."
And the Nine Inch Nails frontman concludes: "He used to be the smartest guy in the room. And as a fan of his talents, I hope he gets his shit together".
"The High End of Low" is the seventh studio album by Marilyn Manson. It was recorded in the Hollywood Hills throughout 2008. Sean Beavan, who mixed "Antichrist Superstar", "Mechanical Animals", and "Eat Me, Drink Me", is co-producer of the album. The album was released on May 26th, 2009 (get it on iTunes). The album's first radio single "Arma-goddamn-motherfuckin-geddon" was released on May 14, 2009.

Posted by: Shadowkiss on Jun 06, 09 | 7:16 pm Witchhunter, you did notice he mentions he's "playing MM"? In other words this interview was with Marilyn Manson, the rock star (to use his words), his persona/character, not with the real Brian Warner, and personally I find it rather interesting, at least its different lol. |
Posted by: NastyByte on Jun 04, 09 | 6:45 pm I agree with Witchhunter - when you try to talk intelligently to Manson, his responses are lame, incoherent and pathetic. I could never really grasp the dynamic of why Trent would be jealous of him. |
Posted by: alx242 on Jun 04, 09 | 6:18 pm Cheeezuz...you people put to much value in how a artist is the real deal or not! |
Posted by: PuppyBrap on Jun 04, 09 | 4:01 pm quoth09, i can't believe it took you 10 years to toss all of NIN stuff. i knew he was a sellout after head like a hole. When my fellow Winnipegers flock to see NIN concerts, your too mainstream for me, thus in this case a sellout. It's a shame NIN even gets mentioned here. NIN is below SL greatness. |
Posted by: quoth09 on Jun 04, 09 | 1:28 pm Witchhunter - I used to have just about everything released by him and I ditched it all about a year or so after 'With Shit', I mean 'With Teeth' came out. Why you ask? Because the artist I grew up with suddenly turned into a huge sell out disappointment, and what's even worse, the fans all just going along with it and buy into it. Glad I have nothing to do with anything he is releasing anymore, as it has gotten even worse since then. Besides, he doesn't need me, he has all of his other sheep to buy his material, and doesn't have to pay anything to anyone but a CD pressing plant and a printer. No record companies, no managers, etc. If you don't believe me about his retirement fund, explain why all of the sudden he has gotten off his ass, released all of this material so fast, when he was doing what, 1 album every 4 years before? Not to mention how many tours and shows has he done in the last 5 years, in comparison to before that? Not to mention sued his ex-label owner and ran him into the ground because he pissed it all away on drugs after The Downward Spiral...whined about not having any money before that. Also, anytime anyone would bring up that he was clean now, or where he had been for the last few years when With Teeth came out, he would go off on, or try to dodge the issue. So to answer your question, actually he did; a big one at that. |
Posted by: Witchhunter on Jun 04, 09 | 12:13 pm quoth09 did Trent hit a nerve by any chance. |
Posted by: NastyByte on Jun 04, 09 | 11:23 am I've met Manson several times and he does not impress as being exceptionally intelligent. Musically he has nothing that interests me and I would say that in that regard he is unoriginal. Spiritually he's stuck in his parochial high school background, which is why high school or younger relate to him and then lose interest if and when they mature. |
Posted by: quoth09 on Jun 04, 09 | 9:28 am Wow, didn't this happen before, about 10 years ago? Thought so. Kinda funny coming from someone that needs to take a look in the mirror and is nothing but a complete sell out now, trying to get as much money as he can before he retires... What is it, pushing almost 50 there Trent? I do recall you having an issue with drugs for how long? This man sued the owner of his previous label thereby reducing the record label to what it's name was: Nothing. He dropped his record record label and then released a limited edition (not to mention the standard and vinyl editions+) profiting a million dollars in 1 day, not to mention Pro Tools whore all the way? I think someone needs to look in the mirror long and hard before they start calling someone else a 'dopey clown', just because they had another fight with them. Sad, sad, sad, and I used to be a fan of this man for a decade plus. Manson is no saint, but then again everyone has their issues. Oh and by the way, hurry up and get married to someone half your age too Trent. |
Posted by: Witchhunter on Jun 03, 09 | 7:30 pm This recent interview with Manson pretty much confirms he's crazy: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8077246.stm |
Posted by: dragonfire on Jun 03, 09 | 10:20 am I agree with electronaut but I know this sort of thing really does get fans interest + their mouths going. |
Posted by: Side-Line on Jun 03, 09 | 8:03 am As long as artists make a fool of themselves, you'll get the juicy bits for free as an extra 'light' topping :). So I'd have to answer 'yes' to that question. |
Posted by: electronaut on Jun 03, 09 | 7:09 am It's an inevitability? =) |
Posted by: Side-Line on Jun 03, 09 | 6:34 am That's why these are always the most read news pieces on Side-Line :). Some gossip in between makes it all the more fun to digest the more heavy stuff. |
Posted by: electronaut on Jun 03, 09 | 6:25 am I'm looking for interesting news, about music and ideas, not gossip........ |
