As expected Depeche Mode have canceled another 3 concerts. The victims this time are the fans in Warsaw, Riga and Vilnius who were informed on Wednesday evening that the gigs were a no go. As a result of the ongoing uncertainty regarding the tour, there are a lot of extra tickets of the sold out upcoming London show (and other) being resold via such sites as Viagogo.
The ongoing silence from the Depeche Mode camp is feeding all kind of rumours including one that got quickly spread in and outside Poland (via national TV, radio and quality newspapers) saying that the Depeche Mode frontman would be having bowel cancer. No reaction came from the band's management keeping that particular news quite alive. A bad sign? Who knows, sure is that lots of fans are now fearing the worst including the complete cancellation of the planned tour.

In Belgium meanwhile, the organizer of the TW Classic festival is promoting the fest quite heavily since a few days in all kind of newspapers and magazines with Depeche Mode featured allover. The band is supposed to be the headliner at the festival and it will be the only gig that Depeche Mode will play in Belgium. When we phoned the offices of Goformusic asking if a refund would be given in case Depeche Mode would not be playing we got this very short and rather unfriendly answer: "there are plenty of other interesting bands to see so no refund will be given". It remains to be seen how the organizer will react when thousands of fans will demand a refund if the gig would be canceled.
Regarding the band's current communication silence, we also noticed that there haven't been any updates to the band's Tourblog (maintained by 'Peter') since the band was in Tel Aviv, making one wonder if there have not been problems before arriving in Athens, the second (or third if you count the warm-up gig in Luxembourg) stop on their tour. After a mere 4 posts, total silence entered the tour blogging arena. The last blogpost held these words: "For those of you who bought tickets to one of our upcoming shows: you're in for a real treat. 20-foot tall Dave, Spaceman Andy and Head-Banging Martin. I won't divulge too much. You have to be there." Indeed... or rather you have to 'get' there.
Good luck to Dave Gahan, let's hope for the best !

Posted by: blueoktober on May 22, 09 | 3:14 pm I just want to comment on what fascist, infantile and ignorant people run the Depeche Mode official forum. The admins are all babies and same goes for Peter on Home. |
Posted by: silikonanswer on May 22, 09 | 10:20 am I hope it is not cancer. I wish the best to the band. |
Posted by: northernkind on May 22, 09 | 8:57 am Obviously I hope it isn't cancer but thinking logically I doubt it is. Tours of such magnitude are often underwritten by big insurance policies and as such they would insist on health checks for key personnel. I'm sure during this process they would have screened for such illnesses. |
Posted by: Red Sekta on May 22, 09 | 7:29 am I wish Dave a full recovery from his current state of ill health. |
