You'd almost think it is an April 1st prank, but no, on December 31st at approximately 2 AM, every 2006 30GB Zune model on the entire planet crashed at the exact same moment. The Zunes reset, power up, then freeze on the loading bar screen. It took Microsoft quite some time to realise the bluner but now the official Zune site has a message stating that they are aware of the problem and are working to correct it. In the meantime you can try this in order to delock the player:
- Disconnect your Zune from USB and AC power sources.
- Because the player is frozen, its battery will drain. Wait until the battery is empty and the screen goes black. If the battery was fully charged, this might take a couple of hours.
- Connect your Zune to either a USB port on the back or your computer or to AC power using the Zune AC Adapter and let it charge.
Do not reset your Zune by disconnecting the battery. However, if you've already opened it, do one of the following:
- Wait 24 hours from the time that you reset the Zune and then sync with your computer to refresh the usage rights
- Delete the player's content using the Zune software (go to Settings, Device, Sync Options, Erase All Content), then re-sync it from your collection.
Be sure to reade the Zune messageboards for some hilarious comments. Below is a video showcasing the problem.
