It looked as if the Belgian Eurosong jury had never heard of electropop when Di Bono played the dark "I'm not sorry" (and that with Arbeid Adelt!'s Marcel Vanthilt as one of the jury members) at the Belgian Eurosong 2008 preselections. The song written by the group's front man Frederic Di Bono together with Liset Alea, a Colombian-American friend, is a perfect blend of rock and electropop and reminds us of a more powerful Daan. A welcome refreshment in between the prefabricated material that was offered during the contest broadcast. However, the band did not make it to the final preselections being considered 'too good' for the Eurosong circus.
Mostly known as husband of Belgian television host Evi Hanssen and as singer of punk rock group Silverene, Frederic Di Bono's new band Di Bono might well be his instant ticket to success. An audio clip of "I'm Not Sorry" can be heard at the official Belgian Eurosong Contest website.
The band is currently working on their debut album together with producer Mon Segers and it is more than reasonable to think that the band wanted to use Eurosong in order to create some attention for their (excellent) material. Way to go! The album is expected to be released on Kozimot Records later this year. Check the band at www.dibono.be and view the video of their performance or see the YouTube copy below.
