Underworld cancel tour after severe illness member
The British dance act Underworld have cancelled the remaining dates on their current tour including the famous 'I Love Techno' festival in Belgium due to illness in the band. The news was spread via the band's MySpace page. The first show to be cancelled was their October 19th performance in London last Friday where they pulled out just hours before they were due to play. No official word on who is actually down has been spread though it would be bandmember Rick Smith who would be quite ill and not Karl Hyde as several magazines report. Speaking to the BBC, Karl Hyde said that the shows had exhausted his partner. Underworld is currently on tour with their latest studio album ‘Oblivion With Bells" released last week.

The first not cancelled shows are the following:

  • Nov 17 2007 Korea University - Seoul
  • Nov 21 2007 Zepp - Osaka
  • Nov 22 2007 Zepp - Osaka
  • Nov 24 2007 Makuhari Messe - Tokyo
It's not the first time Rick Smith is out. On June 16, 2007, Underworld were forced to cancel their show at the Ejekt Festival in Athens, Greece afer 30 masked Grecian anarchists, armed with CS gas, iron bars, and baseball bats, stormed the stadium. Rick Smith was one of the people injured in the ensuing violence, and he was taken to a nearby Athens hospital for treatment.
