As from September 2007, the composer and one-man band Tom Holkenborg, alias Junkie XL, is joining the ArtEZ School of Music as its special teacher of 'Composition & Music Design'. 30-year old Junkie XL, who lives and works in Venice, Los Angeles (the United States), will visit the Netherlands three times a year to spend three days teaching at ArtEZ. During the intervening periods, he will coach and supervise students online from LA by means of video conferencing. Junkie XL’s activities include film music, electronic music, games, commercials, sound producing and song writing. His international breakthrough came in 2002 with the remix of Elvis Presley's "A Little Less Conversation". Henri Broeren, Director of the ArtEZ School of Music, is looking forward to this new working partnership: "Junkie XL is involved at an international level in different areas of an extremely broad field of music. His work has a tremendous, almost classical quality." The Music Technology course focuses on composing and designing music and sound for dance, pop, film and games by means of computers and studio technology. Through their contact with Junkie XL, the School of Music hopes to enable its students to gain insight into the international professional world of music.
