The Mute sublabel The Grey Area has announced the release of 5 remastered CD albums by the Virgin Prunes on September 27th. This will be the first time most of the Virgin Prunes release are officially available on CD. Previews of the artwork and tracklists of these fully remastered albums will be revealed in the months leading up to the release. Already available now, right here, is the front cover of "A New Form of Beauty". Formed in mid-1977 in Dublin, for a time the Virgin Prunes were the most overtly subversive rock group ever to come out of the genre. Their reputation was built on their outrageous stage performances and supported by a wayward and individual collection of record releases. The departure of Gavin Friday, the dominant creative force in the group, in November 1986 also meant the end for the band. Nevertheless, 1987 saw a live album, "The Hidden Lie" hit the shelves. For more info on the band, check the link below. Already available now below is the Virgin Prunes' release "Sons Find Devils", a re-release containing rare live material of the early eighties + enhanced video tracks. Released on October 28th 2002 on Alternative Stuff it's a must have!

Posted by: Caroline on Jun 22, 04 | 3:04 am Please note, the advertised Sons Find Devils CD is really the audio track of a mid-80s video release on Ikon video. The quality isn't that good. It's not part of the upcoming Mute Records releases. Keep your pounds in your pocket and wait for September! |
