We already mentioned it in our blog, but it now also hits the Side-Line frontpage, with extra info. Producer Timothy Z. Mosley, better known as Timbaland, would have ripped off a 4 channel Amiga .MOD made by the Finnish demoscener Janne "Tempest/Damage" Suni to use it in the song "Do it" on the latest album "Loose" by the Canadian popular singer Nelly Furtado. Part of that Furtado track (both the intro and the melody) holds an astonishing resemblance with the Amiga .MOD which was originally entered into a music-competition at 'Assembly 2000', a multimedia-party held in Helsinki, Finland in the year 2000. The entry titled "Acid Jazzed Evening" won the competition and now seems to be ripped to feature in the Timbaland produced track. Illegally, as Janne Suni posted on Digg that he has never given up the copyright for his original track. Nor has he heard from either Timbaland or any of the other producers, let alone Furtado or the Geffen label to use his track as he reports on his website.

It will become very difficult for Timbaland to deny the fraud as the site Scene.org now also confirmed that the original song by Suni got uploaded on their servers in 2000, way before the release of the "Do it" song by Furtado. In our blog you can see a video comparing both the track intro and melody from the Timbaland produced track to the Suni composition. Timbaland who besides being a well known American hip hop and R&B record producer also recently worked on the new upcoming albums for such bands as Björk and Duran Duran.

Update: We were tipped off that Timbaland actually sold a reworked ring-tone of the actual Amiga .MOD-file adding a new drumbeat on it but following the pattern of the original file. It has been sold as a ringtone since 2005 under the title "Block Party" (check here). We posted a video of this above. As a result it looks like it that several bands will have to check if Timbaland didn't illegally use files on their songs as well. Suni from his side says he does not have the resources to sue Timbaland in court. David vs. Goliath ? More news on the links below.

I hope the original artist find's a way to sue for what is rightfully his.

This reminds me of Norwegian teen-electro "band" Fitts For Fights ripping off music from Micromusic and even a track from a RAZOR 1911 demo:

They had the audacity to "perform" this music live in the past and claim it as their own. Thankfully, they recently got booted from the by:Larm festival -- a large indie music festival in Norway.

Amiga rulezzzz!. Those were the days... I remember a cool music demo, 500 Things with four tracks.
