Morten Harket to start work on new solo album

Morten Harket has started work for a new solo album. In an interview with A-ha.com the singer says: "I'm literally starting the process now. I have enough material for several albums… but that doesn't mean any of it will go on there." The sound will as usual be much different from A-ha's music as we learned over the years. In the same interview Harket adds that the band's record breaking show to 196,000 at Rio de Janiero's Maracana Stadium in 1991 also made him wonder if there was anything more they could achieve as a band: "... it was one of those career defining moments. I'm not knocking the show or the audience - who were fantastic - but I knew that I was holding back and not opening up (...) and I started summing up all the things that we had done, which I'd never done before, and I knew immediately we'd reached pretty much what you can achieve. What else was there to do? Have more Top 10's? More Number 1's? It was an uneasy feeling that lasted about a year and a half, a really harsh time." To solve this Harket started writing songs: "... which I hadn't really felt a need for doing before. I'd never wanted to write just for the sake of writing, or to prove that I could. I wanted to write out of a need, and that happened in a pretty big way then… and since then I've been writing a lot, so much more than the fans or even people in general are aware of, just waiting to be made use of."
