John 5, who recently got kicked out of Marilyn Manson's band, has revealed how difficult life on the road with Manson is. During the group's last tour, the band's frontman spoke just once to him about something other than business. In an interview with MTV John 5 said: "It was on my birthday, and he turned to me and said, 'Happy birthday, faggot', he then walked away," said the guitarist, who received a call from Manson's manager on March 30 letting him know that his services were no longer needed. In the same MTV interview John 5 said that he "loved" working with Manson, but life on the road could be unpredictable: "Since the day I joined, it was like being in 'Full Metal Jacket’. Being onstage with Marilyn Manson is like being in a war zone. You never know when he's gonna freak out and throw shit at you. I loved every minute of it." The reason for him being kicked out may be Manson's excessive drugs and alacohol abuse: "I don't drink or do drugs, and he's not like that at all. Maybe he held that against me." John 5, aka John Lowery, was the replacement for previous axeman Zim Zum and first joined Manson for the 1999 tour that spawned the live album "The Last Tour On Earth". The guitarist/songwriter, also known for his work with KD Lang, David Lee Roth and Rob Halford, has just completed a solo album which is scheduled for release in the fall and is writing with several artists for their upcoming albums. Manson is currently in the studio recording new material, some of which will appear on a forthcoming "Greatest Hits" collection as we reported earlier.

Posted by: seraph on Apr 16, 04 | 3:03 pm Manson to me was always one of those artists where I'd buy the album, listen to it, dig a few tracks and then forget about it till the next one. I mean GOLDEN AGE was the ultimate forgettable album - just alter rock by numbers. And as for the next single being DM's 'PERSONAL JESUS' - gimme a break, talk about play it safe. Sure TAINTED LOVE was a good version but this kind of BS is getting old already. First SWEET DREAMS, then TAINTED LOVE now PERSONAL JESUS! Brian, why not just release an entire album of 80's cover versions and be done with it. How about a cover of Killing Jokes' Love Like Blood'? Or maybe 'A Little Respect' by Erasure would be more in the Manson mould. As for John 5 hes better off out of the pantomine, if his solo album is anything like the TWO project which was vastly underated he'll have enough success without the clown show. |

Posted by: on Apr 12, 04 | 9:18 pm Hasn't Manson learned yet he burned out almost ten years ago? Once he started wearing the plastic tits, I think it was time to just get back to working as a manager at Hot Topic. |
Posted by: Bukkake on Apr 12, 04 | 7:36 am manson is one of those "people" you'd like to see lined up and shot at. your better off working for david lee roth probably, which is just as horrible id imagine.. except you could actually call him something and he would most likely agree with you. then again, if you lack the brainpower to not work with someone who wears makeup and makes horrible attempts at popstardom through glam and something individuals refer to as "shock-rock" then your out of luck no matter which avenue you persue. thats just my two cents. |
