Norwegian comedians Ylvis turn radio joke into interstellar sex education Kraftwerk homage aka dicks in space
|21 Nov, 2014|
(By our Norwegian correspondent Jan Ronald Stange) The Norwegian comedians and brothers Vegard and Bård Ylvisåker, known as the act Ylvis, are most famous for last year's YouTube-hit "The Fox", now seen over 467 million times (!). They've also released lots of fun music videos before and after "The Fox", and last week they hit us with the Kraftwerkish tune "Ytterst på tissen" ("Tip of the willy").
We asked the man behind the music, Ginge from SubGud (excellent electronica by the way - listen on Spotify) about why and how this song was made: "I did the track in February. The Ylvis brothers contacted and explained that they had wanted to do a Kraftwerk version of an old hangup they had from the days of the radio show "O-fag". They had this main riff, "At the tip of the willy, sits / the tip of the willy, sits / the hole in the willy, sits / mm m-mm" and wondered if I could somehow expand it. I'm a reasonably big fan of Kraftwerk, so this is an homage, not a parody from my side.
At first we went a bit overboard with the text and had words like smegma, "sponge body", foreskin, glans, urethra and scrotum. Vegard thought it would be a good idea to shave it down to a kind of essence, so then we were left with scrotum, foreskin and urethra, in addition to the chorus of "Tissemann (Pee Man)" and penis of course. It was originally also with quite a lot more penis...
"Ytterst på tissen" was made with soft synths, Moog Modular, Minimoog, CS-80 and ARP 2600. The "Tissemann" vocoder is Logic's EVOC, "Penis" in the chorus and the "tip of the willys" is a cool little plugin called Bits Peak."
You can listen to the song on Spotify and watch the video below including the story behind this song from original radio broadcasts and TV-interviews.
