Apparently he's working on a book. Don't know if this has been mentioned yet, so I'm sorry if it's a repeat.

"I would appreciate it greatly if you could kindly pass this survey on
to any friends who may be interested in my book

at http://www.undergroundinc.com/book/booksurvey.htm

Thanks

Martin."

Isn't that the guy that runs a label that has comps that bands "pay to be on". dork.

No (maybe, I don't know). It's the guy who played with PIL, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, Pigface, etc.

I remember buying that Best of Pigface a few years back and thinking this is the biggest load of shite I've ever heard. Absolute rubbish.

I did like the Rx album though, the one with ogre on it.

Martin is always trying to make money somehow. Remember his eBay auction where you could pay a 'mere' $1000 to get your song remixed by Martin Atkins? (no one bid) Or recently when he'd play on anyone's song for money? Or that 'seminar' he was going to run with 'music industry veteran Curse Mackey' about how to do business in the music industry (not surprisingly, no one signed up for it... I guess Martin's rep as a business man preceded him there...)

Why would you buy a Best of Pigface album if you don't like Pigface? I mean, isn't it like a greatest hits?

I'm resurrecting this thread to see if anyone has any comments on Atkin's new "Tour:Smart" book. You can check it out at Amazon...the few reviews posted all gave it five stars...

Any comments?

I'd be interested in reading it, but I'll wait for paperback (if it even happens)

If he wrote a book called "How to run an honest and fair label" it'd end up in the humor section though.:)

Rx has more than one album and Ogre isn't on it? Huh?

Pigface is great live. Who listens to Pigface on CD though? Just wrong!

The first time I heard the name "Martin Atikins" I honestly wondered if he was related to that whole Atkins diet thing.

Pigface IS great live - and I like most everything they have on CD. FOOK is a classic album - same with Notes from Thee underground.

I don't know anything about how he runs his label - but he has great deals on CDs, shirts, and sets.

The last tour was Called the 'Free for all tour' and it was a pretty awesome deal. You paid $20 bucks to get into the show (which in Columbus Ohio was incorporated into a Tattoo festival) - and could redeem your ticket stub for $20 in merchandise - CDs or Shirts. He had an entire shop along with him.

I met him and talked to him for a couple minutes (with the ENIGMA too) and they were both really cool - just hanging out in the crowd before the show like anybody else.

Plus there was 10 bands or so. From a fans perspective, he seems to do a lot for the audience - Does anybody here have a bad personal experience with him as a record label exec.?

I'm actually excited about the possibility of a new Pigface disc - rumor has it - it's soon.

dealing with their online shop has been a real struggle, good prices but always had to fight witht hem to ship product, i hope they have fixed that issue since my last order, but and undergound stuff i want i'll buy from other vendors.

the book sounds pretty cool, i may pick that up through amazon...

Well, SMP is on this board. You may want to ask him, as I've heard his fun stories. This was after I heard various stories from other artists that were on his label. Notorious for not paying the bands.

could be - I don't know

It would certainly suck - especially in an underround scene that prides itself on NOT being like major labels

While im sure he has some good" advice" to give he still in all purposes is a crook and really there are plenty of other people in this biz that could give you much more worthwhile advice.

i'd be interested in hearing his take on the PIL & Killing Joke years. he's a perpetual hype man so i'd expect a few billion grains of salt would be required.
