OK, so you don't want to listen to some EBM / Harsh / Darkwhatever / Neowhatever all the time, right?
Right?
Listening to other kinds of music can be relaxing, invigorating and just good practice to make sure you don't get stagnant ears, and I mean really different music. So what do you listen to?
I'll start the ball rolling with my favourites:
Classical (baroque does it usually, Albinoni and the like; though Mozart sees my cd player regularly too; any takers for Gorecki?)
Opera (since I've been living in Italy for 15 bloody years it seemed the right thing to do)
Motown (puts a stupid smile on my face)
traditional Japanese, Indonesian, Tibetan, Chinese opera, gamelan, Indian... different music systems can really surprise you at times.
eighties new wave and electro
dead can dance (they have a section of their own I guess)
drum n bass (though I prefer the Drill'n'Bass variation)
techno - hard house
more stuff as well, but what about you guys?

Female RnB gets me off too...
its the voice more than anything
I dont really like rap, but I like a bit of hip hop, especially when they wear those clothes like in the the vids on mtv. They have such good fashion sense, and never wear fuckin black clothes... The dancing is cool too, really important when your listening that you can picture the artist actually dancing.

I also listen to a good bit of dub. Africa Unite's "In Dub" has been on heavy rotation, though will probably be replaced when the new Rhythm & Sound comes out on CD.

@ajkbeast666: dunno why, but if I had to bet which user of this forum was going to give this answer, I would have said you... and won.
*lol*
Why hearing other music?
To me, because it's plain dumb and stupid to limit oneself to a single genre: sure one can have preferences here and there, and one can even think that his preferred genre is better than anything else... when it come to subjectivity, who can argue?
The bad things start to happen when that very subjectivity turns into objectivity and one starts to call "shit stuff" other people's tastes.
aaaaaanyway, my list, in random and chaotic order as usual:
Tori Amos
A Perfect Circle
Tool
Heroes Del Silencio
Counting Crows
Dredg
Loreena McKennit
Mad Season
Pearl Jam
Mike Oldfield
Sting
Sneaker Pimps
Tiamat
Dead Can Dance
+ many, many others

Oh, no - there have been many great releases, my friend - not only 10 in 15 years !!!
@ x**
I think my position is clear and objective. The commercial music is shit and nobody can change my point of view there. Only our scene music is great - partly music on genre closed stuff but the mainstream shit I will never like. The most of the bands you have listed I never heard or I hate them.
Partly Tiamat and also Sting (the old stuff) are good but not more than GOOD !!!
Dead Can Dance is one of my favourite artists ever !!!
Again: The others I never heard as I would be never interested in such shit music like Pearl Jam !!!

The question of this thread is what non scene bands do you listen to when you are tired of listening to that same old Klinik record for the xxxth time. So I gave a list of things that I listen to like Faust, Neu!, Kluster/Cluster, Roedelius, Conrad Schnitzler, Harmonia etc.

anything dark really, the list would be to long so I'll try and stick to labels;
the grades go Ebm & anything else electro or synth based, industrial dance, Gothic, darkwave, 80's, dark ambient ie DCD, Sopor Aeturnus etc.
Beyond that the headbanger within dies hard; anything like classic heavy metal/cock rock, death, thrash or black metal gets my motor running.
I also find Micheal Nymanns sound tracks quite enjoyable and I have a leaning towards baroque classical stuff and folk music!

But still, I'd replace '60 Second Wipeout' with Alec Empire's 'The Destroyer' any day of the week.
The sad truth is that most of the DHR family stopped writing much worth listening to after 1999. It used to be one of my favorite labels. I might take a chance on the new Alec Empire album, but no promises...

Hmmm.
Post-Punk mostly. Some Ethereal/Darkwave. Synthpop/tron. Some French Downtempo.
Depends on my mood I guess.
I suppose I listen to Indie like Joy Zipper and Postal Service.

other than synthetic music, I like to listen to alot of traditional music (Turkish/Greek/Spanish/Irish etc.) as well as listen to movie soundtracks > my current favourite is James Horner's Aliens soundtrack (works well with AVP2 first person shooter game).

Will you be going to Hex this friday? Wermut ( postindustrial/Minimalelectro) will do a gig there and from what I understand there will also be a release party of some sorts for the Trumpet Sounds LP.
