Or, most likely, this and the monkey pig are signs of new trends in evolution that have been taking place for quite some time but that until recently have gone under our radars. Just imagine the terrible smell and people taking a picture of it up close. I came across a dead seal on my last holiday and it was a real stinker. Took a picture, but I can still remember the smell.
