Actually it's raining today in Montreal. Which is never before seen this time of year. But I know I can rest assured that there is no global warming and sleep tight because our governments say so.

Other than that, the releases I've been impressed with so far in 2008 include Run Level Zero : Arctic Noise, Alien Vampires : No One Here Gets Out Alive and Manufactura : In The Company Of Wolves.

I can't wait for the new x**...

And I'm glad to see Pantheon Legio Musica found a label to release their album. I've had the chance to listen to it ahead of time and even spin it in my show and it's really way above average in the martial/orchestral genre.

We usually get that slush type snow with a temperature right around freezing. We don't get the 'artic-blast' stuff similar to Montreal. We've had record rainfall/humidity with an incredible amount of snow in the mountains - a snow boarder's paradise.

'Alien Vampires : No One Here Gets Out Alive' is fantastic, can't get enough! I got their earlier LP yesterday, and not well-produced and no surprise. Must be low-budget.

'Manufactura : In The Company Of Wolves'- god damn it, what an improvement!

I preordered the forthcoming x**, but skeptical of the new vocal style and direction. Usually I embrace change, but might fancy the older sound -dunno...

If our governments stay "sleep tight and don't worry", then we must bend over and obey!

Solitary Experiments 'Compendium - sounds like VNV, except the 'x-fusion' and supreme court which sound like themselves - a common problem with remix material. I do like the 'Captive of society' somewhat, but the vocals still suck bad.

Wynardtage - Praise The Fallen (2CD) - great imho!

I think between this one and Acylum - Mental Disorder - they are my favorites; realizing the later came out in 06'.

"Arcana - Raspail (February 2008)" seems interesting enough; I have them all.

'Portion Control' are really pumping out the music; great -- 'Filthy White Guy' - enjoyment.

I hope to be impressed by new Decree, Angels On Acid and Meshuggah this year..

I have evil mind, its pretty good but seems more minimal then praise the fallen, lyrics are goddamn awful though, but I dont expect poetry out of this genre.

Instans' (Severe Illusion side-project) sophomore album is gonna kick some MAJOR ASS!

Ok i have just finished listening to Memmaker - How To Enlist In A Robot Uprising and it is fucking awesome.
Robot Buzz will be a tough track to beat for "song" of the year.
Got new Retractor today as well but will not get a chance to listen to it until tomorrow.

Robt Buzz is definately the first track I go to besides Sneaking Through the Totalitarian Filter and Deception.

Can't wait to see them again at Kinetik!

New Memmaker is in the Metropolis mailorder top 10 at #5. wooo! The CD really does rock the shit - its been my 'driving CD' for over a month now. :)

Haven't had a chance to snag Memmaker yet, but ESA's HOW PURE WOULD YOUR UTOPIA BE is top-fuckin'-notch and well worth checking out.

A marked improvement over ESA's debut (which I also really dug) and just damn interesting, diverse, and fun to listen to.

And honestly the DEATHKEY compilation is actually better than it has any right to be...

electrofreak, it's a little early to start listing "impressive releases of 2008" unless you're promoting shit not yet out on your own label ;) ;)

WOW !!!!! The Memmaker album seriously blows me off my socks. Projects such as Combichrist or Reaper sound like innocent pop bands compared to this fury of hardtrance, combined with electro grooves and industrial sounds and beats.

I got the Memmaker album last Friday.
While it's not a huge revelation (Iszoloscope is better any day), but it's a really good party album. Definitely the best release I've heard so far this year, but hardly unbeatable.
I got a chance to listen through it on Saturday while we were a bunch of guys drinking before hitting town. Two guys who aren't even into the genre made note of the name, and a third just concluded "I wish I had all your music". So it's definitely popular, hehe.

I would strongly disagree that this type of music is largely unheard of in Australia. Vortex in Sydney would always reach maximum capacity of it's 400-capacity venue, with a line running around the block for entry. Those were the good days. Berserk (where I had a residency) often had 200. And these clubs were specialising in harsh EBM/powernoise.
From stories I hear about clubs in the US where between 20 and 50 punters turn up, I'd say Australia's dark scene is just fucking fine!!!
Sure, clubs like Carmilla's in Melbourne would get between 20-50 punters - but that's because it ran every week and when I lived in Melbourne there woudl be up to 5 goth clubs a week...
Oh, and most Australians I know don't use terms like "Aussie" or "Down Under".
Perhaps my view of my home country is overly romantic?

For me the biggest disappointment of '08 was Portishead's Third. I checked out Memmaker and didn't care for it at all. Ladytron's album is boring, but still preferable to those titles. At least "Runaway" is catchy.
