This is a debated subject for some time now. However, I am curious as to what some of us might consider true Electronic Body Music?
As the name implies... obviously electronic based music, that makes you "move the body" :) There is an accurate description on Wikipedia. I guess this is like any genre... "undefinable" What are some currently active bands/artists you would consider to fall under "real" EBM? I would say start by comparing to the proto-type: Front 242. By that measure, I'd include a lot of bands. There's also bands who cross over into EBM who also cross over into synthpop or trance. My list would include: Faderhead God Module Uberbyte Suicide Commando Sep 05, 07 | 3:09 pm

electo bench marks = the measurements used to rate similarity to older F242 on a scale of 1-5 (1 been not at all similar and 5 most similar)

I see EBM as a reaction to the emergence of the modern mass media landscape of television, soundbytes, sloganeering, sensationalism, etc., and the social/political/economic issues that went along with that. It was probably somewhat novel at the time to have dance music that was also a sociopolitical commentary, though less so now. "Move the body" is part of it, but I think there is lots of electronic music that is dance-friendly but thematically far removed from EBM.

and some may argue that the last F242 release was not EBM. Not how that is possible since they created the genre... bands can change genres from release to release, even jumping out of genres that they created. sometimes you just get tired of it and have to reinvent yourself to stay fresh. if not, you just become a bad parady of yourself ala aerosmith, red hot chili peppers, green day..... look at NIN and ministry now as compared to 15 years ago. or apoptygma berzerk. or bella morte. etc. etc. etc. Sep 05, 07 | 4:35 pm

Genre-jumping is fun, but most elitists see it as "selling out". : (
EBM is essentially trance with harder drumkits and structured as rock songs. All stuck-up accusations of "*insert band here* are not REAL ebm, they're posers!" aside, that's the most accurate umbrella categorization I could think of with the fifty bajillion sub-labels and so on. EBM is a myth. It doesn't exist. There was only one EBM album and that is F242's No Comment.

Someone should spend about 2 and a half years writing,arranging and programming,engineering etc an incredibly agressive,hard and sophisticated Terror EBM Double Disc chockabock with the most vitrolic sounds,pounding basslines,addictive synth hooks and propulsive high energy crunching beats and make sure every single track is focused on having bumsex with an absaloute plethora of bumbanging innuendos and passionate potrayals of the backdoor coniseur.Tales of painfull lament,hyper-agressive high octane blasts of joyous bum-thumping abandon,fist punching anthems of bum-sex sloganeering...indeed this double disc will have it all. Even the most homophobic club goer will have no choice but to get into it due to the quality of its bum-banging beats and bathhouse inspired synths.
