Is music just a background to our/your life? Or does it change how we interact? Just not thinking when we are at rest, but how it affects what we do. Has anyone noticed any change in their interactions with the world when listening to music? haze by Skinny Puppy got me thinking. Any observations welcome, please no monkey pics...........cats are ok.

Ever since I heard Funker Vogt for the first time, I find myself shaving my balls four days a week instead of three.

Hm.. depends on the kind of music. I listen to different stuff. But I can say - and I think I speak for everyone - music plays an important part in life and sometimes you are in situations where music is helping you to get outta there or to handle it.
If I listen to depressive music I start thinking to be depressed for awhile ;) and so on. Sometimes music calms me down and sometimes the effect goes in the other direction. It's always a question of the mood and situation. In general, I can say yes music has a lot of influences in my life.
Speaking of music and life.. my own music is kinda a mouthpiece for me about things that happened to me or to other people. So I put different types of emotions in my music - maybe to get rid of them and it's always very nice to see, when people like my stuff. But there is also a negative part of this story. With success comes bitching and hate and it doesn't matter how much success you have. It's a vicious circle. I had to say this..

good lordy, the funker jokes! :)

I have no idea if music affects my interactions with people or my decision-making. But I think it serves as little more than just a background on my life (I'm not a musician btw). More of a big ass soundtrack or score to my daily life maybe???

The only similarity between my music tastes and my life (as far as I can tell) is that they both reflect my tastes for modern, simple things. I mean, I love the detached, stripped down, chilly electronics of early Front 242. So clean, so edgey and yet timeless, and not filled this mushy mush stuff that Top 40 is usually filled with. At the same time, I've always been drawn to clean industrial designs (no pun intended), like Bauhaus-era furniture or Frank Lloyd Wright architecture. Modern, edgey, but without frills and crap. They're both kinda the same, right? It makes me wonder: does one foster the taste for the other? Or is it just coincidence?

Er, that's not the answer you're looking for, is it???

Quick, somebody put up an owen pic so no one will notice my stupid post.

I think bloosqr is onto something!

ravers = contemporary, post-modern, overblown, stylistic, bright furnishings?
goths = rococco/baroque/victorian?
rivetheads = exposed brick and steel beams in warehouse loft in middle of industrial park?

This outta be somebody's thesis...

Yesterday, we had the first pleasant weather that we've had for a while (crisp and clear but with a nice bit of sun) so I walked around town with a mix of glitchy electronica, noisy industrial and Bloc Party remixes on...perfect.

Music, especially when I'm walking around with headphones on, impacts my outlook greatly. Black metal is superb for armouring yourself against blistering cold, for some reason.

'Dog' likes black metal w/ ear buds and flashlights. He doesn't care if it's cold and crisp, but absolutely "no rave house music please" says 'bounty man'. That's for weenies...

Who suffer in the winter: alternative rock/grunge guys. They are fucked as they can only wear shitty colored tshirts and baggy pants and stuff like that. Goths are fine in winter.

I listen to scary stuff & am a nice guy. I suppose this is a paradox, because some people who listen to rap, r'n'b or brainless pop are usually dumb violent morons.

Personally, music has a HUGE affect on my mood. I have my "go-to" band when life isn't going so good like many people have a "go-to" person. Luckily I have the opportunity to listen to whatever music I choose all day at work. I do know that I can not drive a car with Ministry's "The Land of Rape and Honey" in the CD player. I end up driving way too fast for my own good (or other people on the road).

I like all kinds of music when I drive, especially neo-folk and/or Ministry. Whatever. It really doesn't seem to affect my attitude one way or another... not too LOUD though. It seems I have to concentrate somewhat and not potentially hit other motorists or pedestrians. Guess I'm a drag…;-)

I use music to regulate my mood quite often. It helps take me to a different "place" I guess you could say. I've noticing depending on where it takes me it most definatly influences my interactions with the rest of the world.
